A Bavarian Yarn Factory Dream
Do you love yarn and are in Europe?
Do you love yarn and are in Europe?
There are a few yarn factories in Germany, all in Bavaria, but I really did love the Schachenmayr YarnFactory in Salach.
I have to say that I am one pretty blessed gal! The week before Christmas, my husband voluntarily drove 2.5 hours to Bavaria (FYI; there is a nice little cafĂ© next to the factory so you can park, eat lunch and then shop all in one place!), so that I could shop to my heart’s content in a yarn factory. I got to drool over baby alpaca and silk yarn for almost an hour. It was by far this best thing ever! Well, close I guess getting married to the best guy ever and having his children beats this experience, but I will definitely remember it!
You see my dear friends, allow me to let you in on a little secret- European yarn is comparably less expensive for the quality you receive, and at a discount yarn store…get out of town! True it was still more then I would like to spend, but seriously where else are you going to buy eight 50g skeins of silk yarn for 12€! Seriously! So, I for sure stalked up on beautiful baby alpaca, merino wool, silk, organic cotton and even some super cheap novelty cotton poly yarn!
This is definitely in my top ten while here in Europe! If you can't head on out to Bavaria check out Schachenmayr in the USA!
